His new album, ‘The Way Of The World’, was written and recorded as the world emerged from the pandemic. Produced by long-time Grammy-winning collaborators drummer Tony Braunagel and guitarist Laurence Juber, the horn-driven excursions of ‘Fresh Bear Tracks’ were stripped-down to a small group sound, recording mostly in home studio environments. Augmenting this core trio was a selection of bass players, including the legendary Reggie McBride, Hutch Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt) and John Mayall-alumnus Ricky Cortez.

T BEAR ALL-STARS

– Richard T. Bear

Pianist shares memories, stories of his own career as a solo artist and songwriter. Visibility equates with viability, T. Bear defies the odds. After initially attracting attention with a pair of albums released in the late ’70s on RCA, he chose to go under the radar and subsequently abandoned the idea of making music entirely. Now, nearly 35 years later, he’s reemerged with a new album, Fresh Bear Tracks, and a determination to renew his efforts and put his career back in full throttle.

World Records has this album!

Taking his cues from the likes of Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Bob Dylan, Odetta, Fred Neil, and Sandy Bull for sure. Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady discovered him playing piano in the store, and, suitably impressed, asked him to sit in with them. After serving a stint as Carly Simon’s road manager, he took off for London where he had opportunity to open for Jeff Beck, Richie Havens and Odetta. He began co-writing material with Squier, backing Kiss members Gene Simmons and Peter Criss on their respective solo albums, contributing to Toby Beau’s hit single “My Angel Baby,” and writing and co-writing songs for Cher. In addition, he toured with Stephen Stills, played on the Crosby, Stills and Nash song “Southern Cross,” and opened for Dave Mason, Mick Fleetwood and the Doobie Brothers, among others.

T Bear has been around in so many ways, but especially this:
“I was on the board of directors for a thing called the Musicians Picnic. I used to get all kinds of people. I was playing with Mick Fleetwood and got him to come, then I got Clapton to come and talk and play, and Chicago, and a bunch of people. We had that thing going for almost 25 years. It was a nonprofit organization that would put musicians who had no insurance into detox and then into a sober living environment. Before there was MusiCares, there was MAP — Musicians Assistance Program. I was at the start of MAP with a guy named Buddy Arnold. I got sober and Buddy invited me over to his house and we started the musicians meetings. There were like 12 of us — Paul Butterfield, Ray Sharkey, an actor, Dick Forest. A lot of those people died — there’s only a few of us left. I remember saying to Sean, “I’m doing this thing called the Musicians Picnic. Maybe you come out?” And he never did it. I was really involved and invested in getting musicians sober. I think I stepped down the 21st or 22nd year, because I had enough (laughs). But that’s kind of my legacy.”

T Bear has appeared at World Records several times and again with T BEAR ALL-STARS!
