World Records presents a “First Friday” evening of Art, Music and Food to fight homelessness!
Friday, May 3, 2019, 6:30pm – 9:30pm at World Records – 2815 F. Street
Friday night, May 3, from 6:30 to 9:30, World Records will host a mix of music, art, food, drink, and community. This show will feature the artwork of two fine local artists — Amy Richardson and Kelly Wonderly — gracing the walls of the World Records Theater. The Patrick O’Connell Trio, featuring Paul Perez on sax, and Mike Bhone on upright bass will perform. Hors d’oeuvres stations will be sprinkled around the theater, including slices of our wood oven pizza. Our regular selection of draft and bottled beer and wine, as well as many choices of non-alcoholic drinks, will be available for purchase. Tickets are $20, and can be purchased at World Records or from the many volunteers who are circulating in the community. All proceeds will go to The Mission.
Art and Music for The Mission
In the wee hours after the Los Lobos show, Bonnie and I were sorting trash and recyclables and getting them out the door so we could pack up the load and head home. A man and woman approached and offered to help. “Yes. Please.” They organized the bags, and boxes, and cardboard so nothing would blow out. It was a big help when we were really ready to get home and in bed. I asked where they were staying. “We sleep in front of Rosemary’s for now.” Yes, that’s their home. That’s their bed. Two people in their forties.

Two local artists, Amy Richardson and Kelly Wonderly, approached us with the idea to display their art at World Records for a month, and donate a large portion of any sales to a local cause. Amy is a counselor who volunteers her time counseling at The Mission. The Mission is a long-standing member of our community that feeds, clothes, shelters, provides counseling, mentoring, job training, and substance abuse recovery for the people the rest of us drive by every day. After more discussion we decided to make evening we all can attend, and thereby raise more funds for people who are helping our community’s homeless citizens.
